Professional Statement:

Hello, I’m Alan Li, an Honours graduate of Health Sciences at Dawson College, and currently a 1T7 Engineering Science student at the University of Toronto. The purpose of this website is to document my engineering projects as well as the growth and continual refinement of my design philosophy.

I believe that one of my greatest strengths is my deep theoretical understanding of engineering concepts. In the example of the Mat board beam bridge, this allowed me to optimize the materials given and design a bridge that could withstand over 3000 Newtons of weight. However, several errors in cutting and construction resulted in a bridge that did not live up to expectations. Successful engineering requires taking into account these errors and knowing how to minimize or eliminate them, much of which can only be learned through personal experience. This is the major area in which I wish to grow in the coming years as an engineer.

Some of my hobbies and areas of interest include woodworking, painting, origami and papercraft, and electronics.

Even from just the projects in the past semester, including a model beam bridge, and an improved mechanical pencil, I have gained an immeasurable amount of experience and knowledge. You can see them here:
